David qualified as a financial adviser in 1996, has spent most of his working life as MD or CEO of both national and regional financial advisory businesses. From an early part in his career, he saw the need to take the emotion out of investment advice and set about creating the objective methodology used in the Rutherford Hughes investment proposition today.
David began working with Peter Rutherford in 2014 and went on to form Rutherford Hughes, a business designed to offer bespoke and a boutique service to loyal clients who have had the faith to keep him as an advisor for too many years to mention.
His experience is in business and people and focuses on advising clients who are undergoing change in their lives, either through retirement, selling their business or have reached a stage where they need to plan for later life or succession.
David enjoys lasting relationships with clients always recognising the precursor is excellent advice and reliable consistent service.
Peter has a law degree from Liverpool Law College, now part of John Moore’s University, and qualified as a financial adviser in 1996. He built his own financial advisory practice in Morpeth and teamed up with David Hughes in 2014, later forming Rutherford Hughes Ltd. He has been a non-executive director of a building society and chairman of the Newcastle Building Society’s pension scheme.
Peter enjoys the reputation as one of the industry’s leading technicians on trusts and inheritance tax planning.
He is highly rated by his clients for his communication skills, ability to listen and attention to detail.
Peter is innovative in his approach and has employed opportunities offered through business relief to remove inheritance tax from an estate within two years. He has also advised business owners how to preserve their business relief having sold their business and retired.
His work extends to preserving wealth within pension schemes and other tax wrappers to safeguard families from costs of long-term care and running out of funds in retirement.
Mike was formerly employed in the electronics industry for twenty-four years as an engineer with fourteen years building and running a Printed Circuit Board company as a subsidiary for an electrics group of companies. During this time, he developed several innovative production processes and control systems. This included the extensive use of data to improving production efficiency.
Mike went on to set up an IT Services business where his first involvement with Financial Services began, giving support for IT and business processes, subsequently being employed as a Business Processes Consultant.
Using his extensive Production and Process engineering experience Mike has created systems for managing and processing client’s portfolios. He has also developed systems for creating and monitoring investment portfolios with processes for Risk Rated Optimised Asset Allocation, Peer Group monitoring and selecting Funds with consistent performance against their peers. These systems coupled with Rutherford Hughes investment strategies have culminated with an in-house investment proposition which excels in performance against all the major financial planning firms.
Denise qualified in 2008 as a financial adviser, joining Rutherford Hughes in 2019. She is highly regarded by her clients for her practical no nonsense approach to finding the right financial solution.
Denise founded the networking group “accomplished” to help ladies in business, meet, exchange ideas and promote expertise. It is rapidly becoming the go to place for clients and professional advisers to access the best local advice.
Her work is predominantly advising individuals in the field of pensions, investment and protection with a particular skill in advising separated couples on how to financially plan the future.
